Northern Light Cruise
Imagine sailing through the fjord landscape in the Land of the
Aurora borealis in the dark mid winter.
When you look up the sky you will see the flickering curtains of
dancing luminary phenomena against the dark skies. This skylight
has been mystifying people probably since the first time seen by
a human. The first realistic description of northern light is found
in the Norwegian chronicle the king’s mirror from about 1230
AD. The mythology and superstition often created in connection with
Aurora were often explained as dancing spirits or fighting hordes
in the sky. In Japanese culture they believe that if you seen the
Aurora you will get a never-ending life.
A well-known Norwegian author, Theodor Caspari, in 1882 finished
a poem with the following line: "you are to me, Aurora, a symbol
of life".
